Always try something new

I LOVE sushi. A LOT! I didn’t always love it. In fact, for the longest time, I didn’t eat it because I had this thought in my head that it was terrible, raw fish, blech! One day, as I was getting ready to move across the country, I got together with friends for a going away party. As the drinks were consumed and food passed around, I sampled various bite sized morsels of tasty treats. “Mmmmm, what is this thing, its delicious!” Oh, thats the sushi! WHAT?!? I had unknowingly fell in love with a food that I was previously unwilling to even TRY. But because I accidentally tried something new, I discovered I LOVED IT!

As we go about our day to day lives, we can sometimes get into a very comfortable routine. I’ll admit, I like to have a bit of routine for certain things, like drinking a glass of water when I first wake up, or going for my daily walk with my girlfriend. As long as these routines are helping me, in this case by keeping me healthier, I don’t mind a bit of routine. But after a while, I know I won’t grow. If we just keep walking the same path, me and my girlfriend may get bored and stop. So we like to mix it up a bit by walking a different route. We see how other people in the neighborhood decorate the yard or house and we get ideas for our own place. If we expand this idea further into our lives, we can see that mixing it up helps us grow. It’s like the old adage, “If you keep doing the same things, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten”, or something like that.

A lot of times I’ll try a new food, or listen to a new podcast, because as it is now, I already KNOW the things I enjoy, but if I go for something new, I might like it EVEN MORE! Like sushi. I know I can always go back to my old ways, so trying something won’t hurt. Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s a spicy tuna roll waiting for me. Always try something new, you can always go back to your standard American diet. :p
